I enjoy talking about writing almost as much as I like to write! If you would like me to visit your school, bookstore, library, or conference, please email me.
School Presentations
My presentations give students a behind-the-scenes look at the life of a working author. Using slides, props, and personal anecdotes, I show how my stories evolve from real life. I discuss the writing process, perseverance, and the roles that reading and imagination play in my work. Writers of all ages are encouraged to mine their own lives for stories by asking, “What if?” I also share samples of my own childhood writing in hopes of inspiring young authors to believe in themselves and to see that we all have something important to say. And of course, there is always time for questions!Presentations are 30-45 minutes, depending on the
age of the audience. In addition to speaking, I am
happy to autograph books sold by your school.
I can give up to 3 assemblies and/or classroom visits in one day, plus a short Kindergarten reading if Kindergarteners are not included in the larger assemblies.
School visits can include a Writer’s Lunch in which a small group of children have lunch with me and chat about writing.
Writing workshops are also available.
School Visit Wish List
I enjoy speaking to teachers, parents, librarians, writers, and others who love children’s books. I have spoken at conferences, trainings, bookstores, young author events, and family literacy nights.
Please email me to inquire about fees and availability.
Once we’ve arranged a visit, I’ll mail you an information packet that includes book sales and ordering information, and a letter of agreement.
